What We Do

Forcce9WavyLineHorizontalLower.png

What is Force 9 Coaching?

Force 9 leadership coaching guides emerging and established leaders to lead consciously — to be aware of what they say and do and how it influences others. We provide executive and emerging leaders with the tools and business acumen to help them think and act in powerful ways that inspire others around them. Leadership is really about how you interact with everyone, including yourself.

Ultimately, we help people help themselves and to succeed in professional and personal endeavors. And we guide organizations to greater success by increasing employee engagement and driving effective skills and management.

How does your leadership coaching work?

We use a combination of classic coaching techniques and teachable business skills where applicable.

Coaching is about transformation. The premise of coaching is that people have the answers inside themselves. Force 9 Coaching helps those answers consciously surface. Our clients transform by coming to a fuller awareness of themselves and how they operate — and by taking actions that open their eyes to different aspects of themselves.

We do this by:

  •   Focusing on leadership mindset and style

  •   Overcoming limiting beliefs

  •   Managing inner critics

  •   Communicating with clarity and credibility

  •   Being conscious of leadership presence

  •   Creating collaborative and high-functioning teams

  •   Practicing influencing skills

  •   Emphasizing strategic vision

How can Force 9 Coaching help my business?

Whether you run a Fortune 500 company or a small start-up, we can help you get a better sense of what your leadership looks like, how it may be affecting others around you, and how to optimize your behavior (what you say and do) so you inspire your team, boost employee engagement and see a boost in performance. And if you’ve never led people, we give you the tools to lead. As the saying goes: Great leaders power great organizations. We expect you will see valuable ROI with the help of coaching (see section below that offers data supporting leadership coaching).

How can Force 9 Coaching help my employees?

When people understand why their work matters, and have a clear vision of what they need to do next, they see a boost in their performance. We want to see teams and individuals delivering 120% instead of the average — 60% of their potential.

In many cases, people don’t understand the difference between being a manager and being a leader. We explain the distinction and offer tools and frameworks that move them into a leadership mindset and lifestyle. We hold our clients accountable to move action forward. As a result, leaders will create high-functioning and engaging teams.

Note: We always customize our coaching programs for each case. One size doesn’t fit all.

What’s the difference between leadership coaching and life coaching?

Everyone is a leader of their own life. You have an impact on people all day long whether you’re a parent or a manager of others. Many of the topics that come up in leadership coaching are actually life issues. For example, managing inner critics and clearing your head to make good decisions. The goal for both leadership and life coaching is to learn to lead your life inside-out and not outside-in. To be pro-active and not reactive.

Is there any data that supports leadership coaching?

Yes, there have been many studies:

  • Around 60% of new managers fail in the first two years of placement.
    —Gartner (via Inc.)

  • Most companies see a return of about six times what they invest in coaching.
    —Manchester Inc. (via Fortune)

  • “A good portion of our CEOs’ time (about 36%, on average) was spent in a reactive mode, handling unfolding issues, both internal and external.”
    Harvard Business Review

Where does the name Force 9 come from?

“Force 9” is a nautical term referring to wind strength on the Beaufort scale. Force 9 winds are strong enough to make you rethink your course and look at things from a new perspective. With that concept in mind, Force 9 Coaching will help you navigate your inner and outer worlds and will guide you to drive change forward.

What areas do you specialize in?

Executive Leadership
We give executives the tools to understand who they are as a leader, how to recognize where their power lies — and to recognize that they have a choice when it comes to their actions. We do this with a combination of 360-degree assessments, results-focused exercises, video practice sessions with immediate feedback on personal style, accountability reporting, shadow coaching, and a coaching summary document.

Analytical Professions Leadership
Having managed engineers and analytical professions for over 15 years, we know how they think, what their needs are, and what leads them to feel fulfilled and successful. We can help analytical professions who have been promoted into a leadership role with tools to create highly productive teams, communication and influencing skills, public speaking with confidence, quick decision-making, and executive presence. See more on our services page.

Public Speaking
We help people manage nerves, learn how to practice, boost public speaking effectiveness, deliver engaging presentations.

We can also speak to groups at corporate events about some of the many coaching topics like managing your inner critics.

How We Do It

Forcce9WavyLineHorizontalLower.png

Can you explain what the coaching sessions are like?

In general, the client comes in with any challenge they are facing or have faced and we will always tie it back to their coaching goals.

For corporate clients, the first session is generally a debriefing of the 360-degree assessment tool.

How about the free first session?

We have a complimentary “chemistry” session, 30 minutes long to get to know one another. To understand what the client wants from our coaching, their goals. We explain our approach, what we can bring to the table, and what to expect.

Are the sessions confidential?

Yes, and we are bound by a code of ethics from the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

How long is each session?

Outside of the free session, it is typically one hour. There is also a 360-assessment session, which is 90 minutes (for corporate clients).

How often do you usually meet with your clients?

Once every two weeks or three weeks as the client sees fit.

How many sessions do most people take or need?

A minimum of 8 to 10 sessions every other week are needed to notice (and maintain) changes.

What is shadow coaching?

Shadow coaching is real-time/real-world observation of work practices and communication in the workplace — including virtual meetings via video platforms like Google Meet and Zoom.

What types of coaching packages do you offer?

Packages vary by need. Typically, we offer four- to six-month packages. But we are flexible.

Which 360-assessment tool are you certified in?

We are Leadership Circle™ (TLC) certified practitioners.
